RAJA RAAJA AND KARUR DEVAR,THE COURT POET;THANJAVUR; CHOLAS PERIOD, 11TH CENTURY A.D
One of the rare portraits in Tamilnadu art. This paintingpicures Raja Raja Chola and his poet laureate Karur Devar. It is an important document of the eleventh century. The king is portrayed obiviously visiting the temple with his senior court poet, his eyes filled with wonder at the achivements of the painters and builders. The charecterization of king as a dreamer, and yet an activist, shows the talent of the painter for recreation of inner mood, through clever Brushwork.
